Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Prepare for drawing work
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  • Determine purpose, scope and presentation requirements for drawing task
  • Determine the information requirements for the finished part or item and its interaction with the next level of assembly or process
  • Submit requests for further information (RFI) to designer where information cannot be obtained or calculated
  • Identify relevant standards and terminology, symbols and notation required to comply with standard and design
  • Prepare equipment and set up software for drawing work

Element: Identify and apply dimensions and tolerances for drawing
  • Determine methods of general dimensioning and tolerancing, classes of fit and forms of geometric shapes, from engineer, sketches or specifications
  • Select dimensioning and tolerancing scheme and symbols consistent with standards and design requirements
  • Identify and confirm datum points
  • Apply the principles of general dimensioning to engineering drawing
  • Apply the principles of general tolerancing to engineering drawing
  • Check that each dimension and tolerance symbol can be clearly interpreted for application
  • Re-dimension tolerance drawing with new datum positions if required
  • Extract information from dimensioned drawing

Element: Prepare assembly, layout and detail drawings
  • Produce sectioned third angle orthogonal assembly drawings
  • Project a primary auxiliary view
  • Produce finished assembly drawings complete with required material, part and cutting lists, cross-referencing and any required dimensions, both overall and centre-to-centre
  • Produce all drawings to AS 1100.101 Technical drawing - General principles or equivalent, and organisational presentation standards
  • Check that all required tolerances and dimensions are on the drawing

Element: Select material, components and assemblies
  • Interpret specifications to determine material requirements
  • Select components, material and assemblies from data sheets or manufacturer catalogues to meet specifications
  • Produce bill of materials to specifications
  • Verify drawing compliance with specifications
  • Check drawings to ensure that assembly or fabrication is possible
  • Document and save drawings in accordance with SOPs

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
